Community Outreach Committee

Committee Focus: Engineering awareness, while taking advantage of select opportunities to concentrate on women in engineering. As our outreach is to the entire greater Charleston community, awareness of women in engineering will be raised because of who we are as we participate in giving back, supporting, or volunteering.

We participate in various activities that include:

  • Girl Scouts
    Badge achievement programs, mentoring programs, First Lego Program

    Presentations at Job Fairs & Career Days
    Mentoring and Shadowing
    Sponsoring school run programs Support STEM activities (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics)

Biographies of Officers


Lauren Wolf - President president@swelowcountry.org

Lauren has been actively involved in SWE since 2005. She  received her BS in Industrial Engineering and Management at  Oklahoma State University where she served as Secretary, Vice  President, and President for SWE. Currently, she is working on her MS in  Human Factors at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, and will graduate May 2013.

Lauren  has worked at Boeing as an Industrial Engineer on several  programs including 767, 747, P-8, and Core teams in  Washington State. She worked for Lockheed Martin in Orlando,  FL as a Quality and Supplier Quality Engineer on multiple  missile and fire control programs, before returning to Boeing  South Carolina to take a role on the 787 Final  Assembly IE team as the Pos 4 Bar Chart Lead. In February 2012, she moved back to design engineering as a Tool Engineer supporting 787 mid-body.

Within the Lowcountry Section, she has  also  served as the Section Representative. Lauren is a member of  Alpha Delta Pi sorority, the tribe of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, Institute of Industrial Engineers, American Indian Science & Engineering Society, member of the advisory council for National Association of Engineering Student Councils (NAESC), and a founding  member of Charleston's Women in Aviation International chapter. She enjoys mentoring, home decorating, history and genealogy  research.



Marisol Rutherford - Vice President  vp@swelowcountry.org

 

Marisol grew up In Colombia, and moved to the United States when she was 17 to pursue her dream of becoming an engineer.  She began her studies at the University of Oregon, and then transferred to the University of Florida where she received a degree in Mechanical Engineering. During her years in college Marisol served in leadership roles for the student chapters of ASHREA and ASES.

After graduating in 2006, Marisol moved to Cape Canaveral, FL to work as a design engineer at the Kennedy Space Center. She worked for United Space Alliance serving both the Space Shuttle and Constellation programs. During her employment with United Space Alliance, she also attended the Florida Institute of Technology, where she received a Master of Science in Space Systems Management in August of 2011. In October of 2011 Marisol moved to Charleston, SC to join the Boeing Company as a design engineer for the 787 program.

In her free time she enjoys traveling, mentoring, dancing, and being outdoors. She looks forward to serving the SWE Lowcounty Section.



Priya Greene - Secretary  secretary@swelowcountry.org

Priya has been actively involved in SWE since 2003. She received her BS in Biomedical Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. Priya served various roles in her collegiate section and then became a regional officer, her senior year of college. After graduating, she served as secretary for the New York State Capital District section, and was on the regional conference planning committee for three regional conferences. 

Priya grew up in Queensbury, NY, and after graduation from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute moved back home, where she started her career as a Quality Assurance Engineer for Boston Scientific. She decided to gain more experience from different medical device companies, and began with C.R. Bard in 2008 as a Quality Engineer at their Glens Falls, NY location.

Currently, Priya is working as a Senior Quality Engineer at C.R. Bard in Moncks Corner. As she settles in this new city, Priya is looking to start classes again for her MS degree.  In her free time, she likes to explore different cities and events with her husband, loves dance and theatre, and spends time with her puppy dog, friends, and family!



Mary Graves - Treasurer treasurer@swelowcountry.org

Mary Graves is a local Electrical Engineer with 25 years experience in military electronic systems.  She specializes in secure communication systems.

 Mary joined the US Navy in 1986 as a cryptologic maintenance technician and spent 6 yrs on active duty.  She has traveled the world working in various capacities related to government and military electronics. 

She has both her BS and MS from The Citadel, and is currently employed by a local defense contractor.  She holds a PMP and is pursuing her Certified Systems Engineering Professional certification.    

Mary is a Summerville resident and single mother of one.  Her passion is to help grow the next generation of engineers and scientists as well as giving back to the community. 

 She is active in The Society of Women Engineers, The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and the Charleston Engineers Joint Council.




Cassandra Ross - Section Representative  secrep@swelowcountry.org

Cassandra earned her bachelors degree in Industrial and Operations Engineering from the University of Michigan in December 2006. After graduation, she joined Eaton as a Manufacturing Engineer, and eventually was promoted to Production Supervisor in 2010.

Recently, she has transferred to the facility in Charleston as a Focus Factory Team Leader. She is also the proud mother of a two-year old baby girl!



Lisa Reuter - Section Representative  secrep@swelowcountry.org

Lisa received her BS in Mechanical Engineering at Wichita State University. She began her career at The Boeing Company in Wichita, KS working on the 737 program as a Sustaining Engineer and C-32 Military program as a Wire Installation Design Engineer. In 2003, Lisa transferred to the Boeing Houston site to work as an Electrical Wire Installation and Hardware Design Engineer on the Space Shuttle program. Lisa was active in the SWE Space Center section and served as Treasurer for two terms. At the end of the Space Shuttle program in 2011, Lisa transferred to the Boeing South Carolina site to work as a Sustaining Systems Engineer on the 787 program. She is looking forward to serving the SWE Lowcountry section as a Section Rep.
